Newport County Community Mental Health Center is now known as Newport Mental Health. The organization moved its adult programs, walk-in access, and outpatient services from 127 Johnny Cake Hill Road to 42 Valley Road in Middletown in August 2024. Newport Mental Health serves children, adults, families, veterans, and older adults throughout Newport County with integrated mental health, substance use, crisis, and recovery services.
Substance Use and Outpatient Treatment
Adults with alcohol or drug concerns can access outpatient therapy, individual counseling, group treatment, medication management, case management, and care coordination. Treatment is strengths-focused and is intended to fit within daily life while helping clients build coping skills and strengthen natural supports.
Newport Mental Health also operates the Hope Intensive Outpatient Program for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health needs. The IOP provides more structure than traditional outpatient treatment while allowing participants to maintain work, family responsibilities, and independent living. It can be used as an entry point, a step up from standard outpatient care, or a transition from residential or hospital treatment.
Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment
The organization provides Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment for people living with both mental health and substance use conditions. Rather than separating the two concerns, a multidisciplinary team addresses them together. Services may include individual counseling, group therapy, medication management, case management, continuing-care planning, skills training, supported employment, and housing assistance.
Treatment uses shared decision-making and recognizes that recovery goals vary from person to person. Clients work with staff to identify strengths, values, symptoms, risks, and practical needs. Harm-reduction strategies may be included when they support engagement and safety. The program also connects clients with peer support and community resources.
Crisis and Same-Day Access
Newport Mental Health provides same-day walk-in access Monday through Friday at 42 Valley Road. New clients meet with a clinician and leave with a follow-up plan. Emergency behavioral health support is available around the clock through 988 or the organization’s crisis helpline. Mobile and community-based responses may be available when a person is experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.
The organization serves Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton, and Jamestown. Its Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic model includes crisis intervention, outpatient treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, peer support, case management, veterans services, and screening and assessment.
Insurance and Access
Newport Mental Health accepts most insurance plans and offers a sliding fee scale, including reduced or no-cost care for qualifying uninsured clients. Transportation assistance may also be available. Individuals should use the current 42 Valley Road location for walk-in access and confirm program schedules, insurance coverage, and referral needs by phone.
