The Galilee Mission is a nonprofit substance use treatment organization founded in 1984 and serving Washington County and surrounding Rhode Island communities. The organization operates residential, outpatient, intensive outpatient, transitional living, sober living, peer recovery, and mental health services. Its goal is to help adults build stable, substance-free lives through structured treatment, counseling, employment, community involvement, and recovery support.
Residential Levels of Care
Galilee Mission operates two residential programs. Brett’s Place is a 14-bed, ASAM 3.5 high-intensity residential facility in Wakefield. It is designed for post-crisis stabilization and provides a highly structured environment for people who need close clinical support after detoxification, hospitalization, or another acute phase of treatment.
Galilee House is a 16-bed, ASAM 3.1 residential program in Narragansett. It serves higher-functioning adults who are ready to rebuild daily routines and return to work. Residents are expected to obtain employment within the first few weeks and to participate in treatment, household responsibilities, community meetings, and recovery activities.
Counseling and Recovery Skills
Both residential programs use individual and group counseling. Treatment addresses relapse prevention, decision-making, relationships, emotions, coping skills, and the development of a stable recovery network. Galilee House provides at least five hours of counseling each week and uses 12-step principles along with evidence-based clinical methods.
Residents attend community self-help meetings, participate in activity therapy, complete household responsibilities, and practice recovery-positive daily living. Family involvement is encouraged when requested by the client and when it supports recovery. Treatment plans and progress notes help residents recognize changes in behavior and identify areas that still need attention.
Medical and Practical Support
Medical staff monitor medication adherence, complete health assessments, help residents obtain primary care, and coordinate with outside providers. Random drug screening is used to monitor progress and reinforce treatment expectations. Staff can also arrange appropriate services when a medical issue requires care beyond the residential program.
Galilee Mission places strong emphasis on employment, personal appearance, nutrition, daily routines, and other activities of daily living. These practical expectations help residents prepare for independent living and reduce the shock of returning to normal responsibilities after treatment.
Outpatient and Continuing Care
The organization also offers outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient treatment, transitional living, sober housing, and peer recovery support. This continuum allows clients to step down gradually from high-intensity residential care to less structured services while remaining connected with the same recovery community.
Admissions and Payment
Admission depends on clinical assessment, level-of-care criteria, and bed availability. Some applicants may need detoxification or medical stabilization first. Galilee Mission accepts Medicaid and other payment arrangements may be available depending on the program. Prospective clients should contact admissions to verify eligibility, insurance, program openings, and whether Brett’s Place, Galilee House, outpatient care, or another service is the best fit.
