Alcohol use disorder affects about 16.5 million adults, aged 18 and above, though fewer than 8 percent of people with this disorder get the treatment that they need. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol-related death is the third-leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
