Alcohol may be the only drug that’s not only socially acceptable but actively pushed on people on a daily basis. This makes it difficult for those who have substance abuse issues. Fortunately, you have options for alcohol addiction treatment center in Jacksonville.

How is Alcohol Addiction Treated?

Few people are self-aware enough and have the willpower to stop drinking on their own when they’re addicted to alcohol. Often, there are serious issues that prompt the drinker or someone close to them to contact an alcohol treatment center. Interventions are one way that people who are close to the alcoholic can demonstrate how much damage their problem drinking is doing in their life.

However, the alcoholic must be aware that they have a problem so that recovery is possible.

Alcohol addiction treatment can range from joining a 12-step program like Alcoholics Anonymous to an extended stay in an alcohol treatment center. As far as alcohol treatment, some medications can be used in addition to cognitive behavior therapy, private and group counseling, and relapse prevention coaching.

However, the relapse rates are as high as 60 percent, so aftercare is essential for long-term recovery. Any high-quality alcohol treatment program will include most, if not all, of these components.

Alcohol Treatment Philosophy

DISEASE CONCEPT OF ALCOHOLISM & DRUG ADDICTION – We view alcoholism and drug addiction as a disease, a progressive illness that affects the sufferer mentally, physically and spiritually. The addict suffers from an allergy of the body that produces a physical compulsion once the drug is ingested coupled with a mental obsession that ensures that once stopped, the addict can not, on their own resources, stay stopped. The addict is powerless

GOOD NEWS! – The good news is that there is a solution to “this seemingly hopeless condition of mind and body”. That solution is found in the program of action first outlined in the book “Alcoholics Anonymous”.

RECOVERY DYNAMICS© – The Recovery Dynamics treatment model was developed by Joe McQuany (Joe McQ.) who was the “Joe” in the “Joe and Charlie Big Book Workshop”. For over 40 years Joe devoted himself to helping others to discover the joys of recovery through the program found in the original Twelve Steps.

The Recovery Dynamics program explains the problem and the solution and then provides a program of action, broken down into small, easily digestible pieces that will guide you through Steps 1 – 9 and then teach you how to integrate into the recovery community and build the support network needed to stay clean and sober and experience the joys of long term recovery.

We use the Recovery Dynamics program and all our counselors are trained and certified in Recovery Dynamics. Ron Cipriano is a certified Recovery Dynamics trainer and has trained many counselors in the Jacksonville area to use the Recovery Dynamics program.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT – the initial assessment will help us to determine the proper level of treatment appropriate to your unique situation and then refer you to the treatment facility that will best meet your needs. You may need a medical detox, residential (inpatient) treatment, intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment and/or individual counseling. We will guide you to the best solution for you even if it may be a level of treatment that we do not provide. Our overriding concern is what is best for YOU!

What You Can Expect From a Comprehensive Alcohol Addiction Evaluation

Addiction is a complex disease that affects behavior and brain function. Many people throughout Northeast Florida with substance abuse disorders also have other mental health illnesses, which are also complex and take careful assessment to diagnosis.

At the same time, the symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse and of mental health disorders can overlap. Substance use can mask the symptoms of co-occurring disorders, exacerbate symptoms or mimic symptoms, and vice versa.

There are rarely easy answers with substance abuse, especially when coupled with underlying mental health disorders. That’s why the initial substance abuse evaluation and assessment of each patient is so crucial to mapping out a treatment plan that’s right for each individual.

Outpatient Alcohol Abuse Programs

Outpatient programs support change while working around your busy schedule. Sessions average 60 minutes with commitment to attend once or twice a week. What abuse and addiction are, the science of addiction, developing skills to repair the damage and avoid future damage, discovering new avenues to handle problems, and developing a new lifestyle are covered in small group sessions. Individual work with your counselor focuses on goals you create.

New habits take time and practice. Programs can be designed from 60 days to 6 months depending on goal progression. Counselors and staff are here to support you every step of the way.

Extended Outpatient programs can be helpful for those returning from residential program and have limitations on their schedule preventing participation in an intensive outpatient program. Regaining structure in your daily activities, putting skills into practice and focusing on getting started on your new lifestyle is the focus. Sessions are offered three times a week for no less than 180 minutes. Saturday and Sunday afternoon hours are convenient for reinforcing the need for structure in early recovery.
