When recurring use of alcohol and/or drugs results in clinically and functionally significant impairment, such as health problems, disability, and failure to meet key duties at work, school, or family, substance use disorders develop. Substance abuse can coexist with other mental diseases, and it frequently obstructs treatment.

You need treatment if you can’t quit taking drugs or alcohol on your own. Individuals, families, and others affected by substance abuse can seek treatment and recovery at AMHC. When a person comes to AMHC for treatment, an initial evaluation will be performed to determine which level of care is most appropriate.
