AdCare Rhode Island Outpatient Program is located on the main AdCare campus at 1950 Tower Hill Road in North Kingstown. Effective March 1, 2026, AdCare moved its Rhode Island outpatient services to this campus, bringing outpatient care together with the organization’s detoxification, inpatient, and residential programs. The outpatient program serves adults who need structured addiction treatment while continuing to live at home.
Outpatient Levels of Care
AdCare provides outpatient treatment that can be adjusted according to clinical need. Services may include standard outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient programming, partial hospitalization, and continuing care after detoxification or residential treatment. The recommended level is based on substance use, withdrawal risk, mental health symptoms, home stability, previous treatment, and the amount of structure needed to support recovery.
Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves several hours of programming on multiple days each week. Standard outpatient services use a less frequent schedule and may be appropriate for people who have stable housing and reliable support. Outpatient treatment can also serve as a step-down level after a more intensive stay on the North Kingstown campus.
Counseling and Clinical Services
AdCare uses individualized treatment plans that are reviewed throughout care. Services include individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, addiction education, relapse-prevention work, case management, and discharge planning. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps clients recognize thought patterns connected with substance use and practice healthier responses. Motivational approaches can help people clarify goals and strengthen their commitment to change.
Group therapy provides education, feedback, and connection with others in recovery. Individual sessions allow clients to address personal concerns privately. Family sessions may help repair communication, establish healthier boundaries, and prepare loved ones to support recovery after treatment.
Co-Occurring Mental Health and Specialized Support
AdCare treats substance use alongside depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and other co-occurring conditions. Psychiatric care and trauma-focused services may be included when clinically appropriate. The Rhode Island program also identifies specialized support for veterans, first responders, LGBTQ+ clients, young adults, people with chronic relapse histories, and other populations.
The North Kingstown outpatient program is also a state-approved provider for Rhode Island DUI and refusal offenders. AdCare offers separate tracks for first-time and repeat offenses, with group sessions, individual therapy, and toxicology screening designed to meet court and DMV requirements.
Continuing Care
Aftercare planning begins early. Clients may be connected with ongoing outpatient counseling, medication treatment, peer recovery support, primary care, psychiatric services, mutual-help groups, or sober housing. AdCare’s larger continuum allows a client to move between outpatient and inpatient levels when clinical needs change.
Insurance and Admissions
AdCare Rhode Island accepts many commercial plans and identifies Cigna, Tufts, and UnitedHealthcare among its in-network providers. The program also accepts private pay and may offer financing options. Prospective clients should contact admissions to verify insurance benefits, outpatient schedules, telehealth availability, current program requirements, and any expected out-of-pocket costs.
