Journey to Hope Health and Healing Washington County is now operated as BHG Westerly Treatment Center at 86 Beach Street in Westerly. Behavioral Health Group acquired the Journey to Hope locations in 2022 and continues to provide outpatient treatment for opioid use disorder. The center serves patients from Westerly, Charlestown, Hopkinton, and other communities across Washington County and nearby southeastern Connecticut.
Medication Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
BHG Westerly offers methadone, buprenorphine such as Suboxone, extended-release buprenorphine such as Sublocade or Brixadi, and naltrexone such as Vivitrol. Medication is selected after medical and clinical assessment of opioid-use history, withdrawal symptoms, previous treatment, current medications, physical health, and the patient’s goals.
Methadone is provided through the opioid treatment program and is taken under medical supervision. Buprenorphine can be offered in the clinic or by prescription for eligible patients. Extended-release buprenorphine provides weekly or monthly coverage, while naltrexone blocks opioid effects after the required opioid-free period.
Counseling and Personalized Care
Medication is combined with individual and group counseling. Individual sessions provide a private setting to establish goals, discuss challenges, and work through the emotional and behavioral aspects of addiction. Group counseling offers encouragement, education, shared learning, and connection with peers in recovery.
BHG develops a personalized treatment plan for each patient. Some people are entering care for the first time, while others are returning after a pause or transferring from another provider. Treatment can be adjusted when relapse, medication concerns, health changes, or new recovery needs arise.
Comprehensive Recovery Support
Additional services include case management, health assessments, telehealth, and laboratory monitoring. These supports help address physical health, practical needs, and ongoing accountability. Staff can also coordinate transfers from another treatment center and connect patients with outside medical, mental health, or community resources.
Take-home medication may be available for patients who meet federal and state requirements for safety and stability. Eligibility is based on treatment progress and provider review. Medication hours are separate from general business hours and should be confirmed before arrival.
The center also allows eligible patients to transfer from another opioid treatment program. Staff can coordinate records and dosing so treatment is not interrupted. Same-day or next-day starts may be possible depending on clinical review, medication, and operating hours.
Patients are encouraged to ask about counseling frequency, take-home dose requirements, telehealth availability, and case-management support during intake. These details may differ according to the medication selected, treatment progress, and federal or state opioid treatment regulations.
Insurance and Admissions
BHG Westerly accepts Medicaid, Medicare, most commercial insurance plans, self-pay, and grant-funded support when available. New patients should bring photo identification, an insurance card, and a list of current medications. The first visit may include intake, medical evaluation, and development of a treatment plan, and medication may begin the same day when appropriate.
