Journey to Hope Health and Healing in Johnston is now operated as BHG Johnston Treatment Center. The outpatient program is located at 985 Plainfield Street and specializes in treatment for opioid use disorder. BHG combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and recovery support so patients can receive structured care while continuing to live at home and maintain work, school, or family responsibilities.
Medication Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
BHG Johnston offers methadone and buprenorphine, including Suboxone. The center also lists extended-release buprenorphine options such as Sublocade or Brixadi and naltrexone treatment with Vivitrol. Medication selection is based on medical assessment, opioid-use history, withdrawal risk, previous treatment, other medications, and the patient’s preferences.
Methadone and buprenorphine reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings by acting on opioid receptors in a controlled medical setting. Extended-release medications can provide longer periods of coverage between doses for eligible patients. Naltrexone blocks opioid effects and requires a period without opioids before treatment begins. Medical staff monitor response and adjust treatment according to safety and progress.
Counseling and Behavioral Support
Medication is combined with individual and group counseling. Counseling helps patients identify triggers, improve coping skills, strengthen motivation, and address problems that can interfere with recovery. Treatment may involve relationships, stress, grief, trauma, employment, legal concerns, housing, and co-occurring mental health symptoms.
Group counseling provides education, peer support, and accountability. Individual sessions allow patients to discuss personal concerns privately and develop goals that reflect their current situation. The treatment plan can change as stability improves or new needs arise.
Comprehensive Outpatient Support
BHG describes its model as comprehensive outpatient care. In addition to medication and counseling, staff can help coordinate services involving primary care, mental health treatment, recovery support, and community resources. Referrals may be made when a patient needs detoxification, residential treatment, psychiatric care, infectious-disease services, or another program outside the center’s scope.
The Johnston center serves patients from Johnston, Cranston, Warwick, and other parts of Providence County. People may enter treatment for the first time, return after an interruption, or transfer from another provider. BHG states that the team develops a personalized care plan and works to meet patients at their current stage of recovery.
Getting Started
New patients should bring photo identification, an insurance card, and a current medication list. Intake includes medical and clinical screening to determine eligibility and the appropriate medication. Clinic hours and medication schedules can change, and some services require scheduled appointments.
Insurance and Payment
BHG Johnston states that it accepts Medicaid, Medicare, many commercial insurance plans, and self-pay. Grant support may also be available for eligible patients. Individuals should contact the center directly to verify coverage, current hours, medication availability, and any documents needed to begin treatment.
