East Bay Health Center – Barrington is part of East Bay Community Action Program, a nonprofit organization that provides behavioral health, medical, and community support services throughout Rhode Island’s East Bay region. The center is located in the John P. Digits, Jr. Facility at 2 Old County Road in Barrington. It serves adults and families who may need counseling, psychiatric care, crisis intervention, community-based support, or help coordinating behavioral and physical healthcare.
Behavioral Health and Crisis Services
The Barrington center provides behavioral health access through EBCAP’s intake department. New referrals are screened to determine the most appropriate level of care based on the person’s symptoms, immediate safety concerns, treatment goals, and the services being requested. The program serves people with mild, moderate, or serious behavioral health conditions who may need counseling, psychiatric care, medication support, or a more intensive community-based service.
Emergency behavioral health services are available around the clock for people experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. Individuals may contact the program directly or be referred by a hospital, law enforcement agency, family member, or community provider. Crisis staff evaluate the situation, help stabilize the individual, coordinate access to appropriate treatment, and determine whether hospitalization or another level of care is needed. Walk-in and scheduled services are available during regular weekday hours.
Community Support and Ongoing Care
Adults living with serious and persistent mental or emotional disorders may qualify for community support services. These services can include Integrated Health Home support, Assertive Community Treatment, case management, medication administration, wellness coaching, individual counseling, group counseling, and coordination with hospitals or medical providers. The purpose is to help clients remain as stable, safe, and independent as possible while receiving care in the community.
Care coordination can be especially important when behavioral health symptoms are connected with substance use, chronic medical conditions, unstable housing, difficulty managing medications, or repeated hospital visits. Staff may work with the client and other providers to organize appointments, communicate treatment information, address barriers to care, and connect the person with services that are not available directly at the Barrington center.
Integrated Medical and Pharmacy Services
The location also operates as a patient-centered medical home with primary care for adults, children, and families. Integrated behavioral health services are available through the primary care program, allowing emotional health and physical health needs to be addressed together. This may be helpful for people whose depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, or serious mental illness affects their ability to manage other medical conditions.
A Genoa Healthcare pharmacy is located inside the facility. Pharmacy staff can fill medications prescribed by different providers, assist with medication questions, provide prefilled pill organizers, and arrange mailing, delivery, or curbside pickup. These services can make it easier for clients to follow a medication plan and reduce interruptions in care.
Insurance and Access
East Bay Health Center – Barrington accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medical Assistance, and other private or third-party insurance. Services are also available to people who are uninsured or underinsured, with sliding-fee arrangements based on income and household size. New patients are accepted. Individuals should contact the center directly to confirm current appointment availability, referral procedures, insurance participation, and whether the Barrington program provides the specific service needed.
