Boston Rescue Mission OP Counseling is a veteran’s alcohol and substance abuse treatment center in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. In Dorchester, Massachusetts, the Safe Haven program is a 10-room short-term transitional housing program for veterans with current substance misuse and mental health difficulties. The Safe Haven initiative aims to help chronically homeless veterans who have had trouble finding housing through regular means.

Motivational interviewing, critical time intervention, and phases of change are three evidence-based strategies used in the program. Safe Haven offers its visitors a low-demand, non-intrusive environment. The program’s rules are simple, and the emphasis is on the individual’s safety. The ultimate goal is to help veterans transition into permanent housing in a safe and healthy manner.
